About Michael Schlein
A progressive democrat, Michael Schlein is neither a career politician nor a ttrust fund baby, he is a regular San Franciscan running for Mayor because SF's problems affect him. Formerly a researcher, Mr. Schlein most recently has been working as a common rideshare driver. He has seen firsthand how city hall's failings have harmed the city, as he's seen the declines in tourism and conventions impact his business, had his catalytic converter stolen 3 times in an 18 month span (costing him thousands in lost revenue), and struggled to afford the high cost of living in SF like so many. Schlein believes that San Francisco needs to grow its budget to deal with all the challenges the city faces, yet it can't keep raising taxes to do so. Therefore, he proposes part of the budget should be invested into business. In his first year, he will streamline regulations, invest to increase the budget without raising taxes or fees, hire necessary police staff, and start the process of building housing for the city's homeless. He plans to build enough housing to house all the Bay Area's homelss within 5 years.

Michael Schlein's Vision for the City
Homelessness
More than 20,000 people are homeless in the Bay Area. Michael Schlein is committed to ending homelessness by constructing a new housing facility for 40,000 homeless individuals. He seeks to end homelessness not only in SF, but The Bay Area. The facility will provide essential services such as healthcare and job training to help residents get back on their feet.
Affordability
San Francisco's high cost of living and business policies make it a challenging city for businesses and residents alike. Michael Schlein's plan to increase affordability includes changing zoning regulations to create more housing, reducing fees like parking and sales taxes, and cutting taxes and red tape for local businesses.
